India-Malaysia sign key agreements

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Monday said that India and Malaysia will deepen security and defence cooperation to combat terrorism.

Addressing a joint press conference with his Malaysian counterpart in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, he complimented his Malaysian counterpart for combating extremism and radicalisation and highlighting the "real values of Islam".

PM Shri Modi added that the security cooperation between the two countries underlines the shared commitment to deal with security challenges.

The Prime Minister said that both the countries will make defence cooperation stronger. He added the agreements signed on cyber security are very important. Shri Modi said that trade and investment relations between India and Malaysia can be scaled up significantly.

He lauded Malaysia's competence in infrastructure by saying that "it is well known." Malaysian Prime Minister Mr Najib Rajak termed the bilateral talks as very productive and constructive.

Addressing news persons, he said that relations between India and Malaysia have always been very strong. He also expressed Razak called Prime Minister Shri Modi as a man of action, who wants things to be implemented expeditiously. He also lauded the Prime Minister's efforts in building and strengthening infrastructure by taking initiatives like Smart cities and Digital India. Earlier, PM Shri Modi held bilateral talks with his Malaysian counterpart Mr Najib Razak in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. 

Many key agreements, that will give a boost to India-Malaysia relations, were signed after the talks. Earlier, on the third day of his visit to the southeast Asian nation, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was accorded with an impressive ceremonial guard of honour at Perdana Square in Kuala Lumpur. His Malaysian counterpart Mr Najib Razak warmly welcomed him, following which PM Shri Modi inspected the guard of honour during the ceremonial welcome. 

The national anthems of both the nations were played by the ceremonial band after which he met with the Malaysian cabinet members, ministers and dignitaries.
