Interactive Session on Women's Rights held on the occasion of International Women's Day

     The High Court Legal Services Committee, Calcutta High Court, Circuit Bench at Port Blair, organized an Interactive Session on 'Women's Rights' in commemoration of International Women's Day. The event was graced by the august presence of Hon'ble Justice Soumen Sen, Judge, High Court at Calcutta, the Hon'ble Justice Shampa Sarkar, Judge, High Court at Calcutta & Chairperson, High Court Legal Services Committee, Calcutta High Court Circuit Bench at Port Blair and Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury on 8th March, 2025 at the Calcutta High Court, Circuit Bench at Port Blair. 
     The session commenced with an introductory speech by Ms. Anoushka Singh, Ld. Advocate, highlighting the significance of Women's Day. Shri Bhawani Shanker Sharma, Secretary, HCLSC, delivered the inaugural address. The event was further enriched by valuable speeches by Hon'ble Justice Soumen Sen, Judge, Calcutta High Court, Hon'ble Justice Shampa Sarkar, Judge, Calcutta High Court, who spoke on women's rights and the achievements of inspiring women, Smti Sharmila Singh, W/o Hon'ble Justice Soumen Sen & Social Worker, addressed women's issues and empowerment, Shri Diptendra Nath Mitra, Ld. Judge, Family Court, Port Blair, discussed legal aspects concerning family law and women's rights, Smti. Arkabrati Neogi, Chief Judicial Magistrate, South Andaman, spoke on the significance of Women's Day. Shri Deep Chaim Kabir, Ld. Senior Advocate, highlighted about women's achievements while Smti Reeta Devi, Welfare Officer, Directorate of Social Welfare, shared insights on welfare initiatives for women. 
   Smti Anjili Nag, Ld. Senior Advocate, emphasized on legal protections for women, Dr. Jochibed Vincent, Faculty, Andaman Law College, spoke on women's legal rights, Ms. Babita Das, Ld. Government Pleader, discussed about women's role in the legal field, Smti Akshaya, Faculty, Andaman Law College, highlighted women's contributions to society. Smti Devanjali Kabir, W/o Shri Deep Chaim Kabir, shared her perspectives on women's empowerment  and Ms. Neeta Chandra, Assistant Professor, TGCE,  highlighted the role of education in women's empowerment. 
    The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Advocates from the Local Bar Association, staff of the High Court and District Court, and women officers from the Andaman & Nicobar Administration actively participated in the program. 
      The session was attended by distinguished judicial officers, including Shri Sudhir Kumar, Ld. District Judge, Shri Neyaz Alam, Ld. Additional District Judge, Port Blair, Shri Diptendra Nath Mitra, Ld. Judge, Family Court, Port Blair, Smti Arkabrati Neogi, Ld. Chief Judicial Magistrate, South Andaman, Shri Souvik Ghosh, Ld. Judicial Magistrate First Class-I, Port Blair. 
    The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Bhawani Shanker Sharma, Secretary, HCLSC. As a gesture of appreciation, Hon'ble Justice Shampa Sarkar presented flower bouquets to all women participants, a press release from Secretary, HCLSC said.
