Meeting to address all issues related to manufacture, storage, transportation & retail sale of packaged drinking water in Isles held

A meeting was held in the conference hall of DC Office, South Andaman District under the chairmanship of Joint Commissioner (Food Safety), A&N Islands /Additional District Magistrate, South Andaman today. The meeting was held to address all the issues related to manufacture, storage, transportation and retail sale of packaged drinking water in these Islands. The Joint Commissioner (Food Safety) informed that recently the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India has lifted Bureau of Indian Standards mandating of packaged drinking water and categorized it as High Risk category. Henceforth, testing of Packaged Drinking water through NABL accredited and FSSAI notified laboratories would be
mandatory.
The Joint Commissioner warned all Packaged Drinking Water manufacturers to refrain from mislabelling and filling 20lts cans of other manufacturers. Such practices are offence (sale of misbranded product) under FSS Act which is punishable u/s 52 of the Act with a fine which may extend upto Rs. 3 Lakhs.
The Joint Commissioner (Food Safety) reiterated that since water is an essential commodity, hence all the manufacturers of packaged drinking water/ purified
drinking water
must follow all the guidelines and follow fair trade practices, a press release from Designated Officer (FS), SA said.
