Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision of Digital India for providing low cost telecom bandwidth for A&N Islands facilitated by Hon'ble Minister of Communication & Secretary (Telecom)

      Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision of Digital India envisages high speed bandwidth availability for all groups of people at affordable cost for maximum utilization for various electronic services including digital payments. The Department of Telecommunication has slashed the internet bandwidth tariff provided through CANI-SMC project by 50% to 60%. This has been possible due to continuous persuasion with Ministry by the Hon'ble Lt Governor and Chief Secretary, A&N Administration. 
     The Officers from DoT, New Delhi, Shri Sanjay Varshney, DDG along with Shri K P Mohan, DDG, DoT (Term Cell) and Shri Atul Kareliya, Director, DoT (Term Cell) handed over the Office Order dated 20.05.2022 issued by DoT related to revised tariff of bandwidth created under Submarine Optical Fibre Cable Connectivity between Chennai and Andaman & Nicobar  Islands (CANI Project).
    The Chief Secretary has expressed gratitude to the Hon'ble Minister of Communication and Secretary (Telecom) for making special tariff for A&N Islands. He also advised the Officer to ensure that the reduction of tariff is passed to all the users in totality.
     The Chief Secretary also stated that the lower revised tariff will not only facilitate all strata of society especially the 
students community, but also aid the Commerce & Industry, thus improving the economic activities of A & N Islands. The Chief Secretary during the discussion with DoT also emphasized on improvement of last mile connectivity. 
The Officials of DoT informed that the Ministry has taken various initiatives to improve the last mile connectivity, thereby making the abundant bandwidth available even in the remotest Islands.
