Prime Minister to embark on five nation tour today

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will embark tomorrow on a five nation tour to Afghanistan, Qatar, Switzerland, United States and Mexico. On the first leg of his visit, Shri Modi will visit Herat in Western part of Afghanistan tomorrow afternoon. There, he will inaugurate India-Afghan Friendship Dam earlier known as Salma Dam. He will also hold meetings with Afghan leadership and discus issues of mutual and regional interest.
In the evening, the Prime Minister will arrive at Doha, the capital of Qatar. This is the highest-level visit from India to Qatar since the visit of the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to Doha in 2008.
During his visit to Switzerland, Shri Modi and the President of the Swiss Confederation Mr Johann Schneider-Ammann will hold discussions on bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
In the United States, Shri Modi will address a Joint Meeting of the US Congress. The main objective of the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister would be to consolidate the progress made in diverse areas such as economy, energy, environment, defence and security, and to intensify cooperation for the future.
The Prime Minister will wind up his tour by visiting Mexico on 8th of this month and hold talks with leadership of that country. The bilateral relations between India and Mexico have witnessed renewed vigour and activity in the last two years.
