The two day 'Eat Right Mela' organized by the Food Safety Department, A&N Administration at Marina Park, Sri Vijaya Puram to promote the consumption of millets culminated today. Today being Sunday, Good number of visitors visited the Mela wherein the local Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have put up their stalls showcasing and selling an exciting range of delicious and nutritious millet-based products.
The mela was aimed to sensitize people to learn about the benefits of indigenous millets and other ingredients as well as to encourage people to use millets innovatively. The 'Mela' was a treat for food enthusiasts and health-conscious individuals alike. Millets are a powerhouse of nutrition, offering numerous health benefits. It is rich in dietary fiber, low in glycemic index, and packed with antioxidants. They are not only easy to digest but also excellent sources of essential minerals like iron, zinc, calcium, potassium and magnesium.
To bring awareness on the importance of millets, the Food Safety Department distributed IEC materials on millets and millet-based recipes. Various millet grains as well as millet-based dishes were also displayed at the venue through the Food Safety Departmental stall. Huge crowd was found enjoying the delicious millet dishes sold through the millet stalls. People in large numbers also enjoyed the nukkad natak based on the theme 'Benefits of millets in daily life'.
