Table top exercise on earthquake preparedness held at Mayabunder

A table top exercise on the duck, cover and hold - earthquake preparedness was held in the conference hall of the Tehsil office, Mayabunder. The resource person for the exercise, the Assistant Director (Logistics), Directorate of Disaster Management Shri Gyan Singh spoke about the various authorities under the Disaster Management setup and their role in the Disaster Preparedness at the time of actual disaster. He also discussed the disaster preparedness of the A&N Administration as well as the District Administration, North & Middle Andaman. 

He further informed that every school in the UT has a Disaster Management Plan under NSSP which has been submitted by most of the schools to the Directorate of Disaster Management and rest of the schools will be submitting the same shortly. 

He also pointed out that the entire community of A & N Islands will be covered under the community based disaster risk management programme (which has already been launched in this UT). Earlier, the Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Mayabunder welcomed all the HODs/ HoOs and teachers present The HODs, DEOs and the teachers present were enlightened about the exercise and doubts raised by them were clarified by the resource person on the spot.

The District Administration of North & Middle Andaman proposes to conduct the mock exercise in the third week of August 2015 in all the schools of N & M Andaman under NSSP to create awareness and improve preparedness amongst the young generation as well as teachers.
