A&N UTCPCR team visits Mayabunder Stakeholders meeting held; need for having Child Friendly Villages highlighted
The A&N UTCPCR Chairperson Smti Kiran Tigga and Members, Smti Rubina Siddiqui and Shri Tarango Kumar Dhali visited Mayabunder recently.
A stakeholders' meet was conducted at the APWD guest house under the chairmanship of A&N UTCPCR Chairperson and was attended by Shri Saw Tathu, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad (North & Middle Andaman) AC (Mayabunder), Asst Labour Commissioner (North & Middle Andaman), MS (Incharge) R P Hospital, DySP Diglipur, DEO ((Middle Andaman) SHO Rangat and MO (Rangat) and CDPO (Middle Andaman).
Speaking on the occasion, the Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, Shri Saw Tathu emphasized that the society as a whole is responsible to ensure protection of child rights. He assured of extending all support to make the selected villages as Child Friendly Villages.
The UTCPCR Chairperson, Shri Kiran Tigga spoke on the need for having CFVs in the light of increasing cases related to children. She took stock of the present status of children from the Health, Education and Police Departments and issued directions for mitigating measures in areas of improvement. She urged all Departments to work in harmony in conducting various awareness programmes for children. She also directed for formation of DCPU in the district.
Smti Rubina Siddiqui informed the gathering of the mandate of the commission and the main areas of work. Introducing the concept of Child Friendly Village (CFV) she discussed the indicators which can make a village into a CFV in detail along with the role of various stakeholders in the same. On cases of child labour coming to the Commission recently, she requested the Labour Department to be vigilant so that children are not employed in houses as domestic help. Earlier, Shri Taranga Dhali welcomed the gathering.
The Commission also visited the Mayabunder Senior Secondary School, boys hostel, the RP Hospital and Anganwadi to access the facilities extended to the children of Mayabunder.
