PMEGP scheme helped beneficiary in enhancing family income

    Blessed with the innate ability to create beautiful handicrafts, Smti. Snehalata Roy, a resident of Manglutan village of South Andaman District wanted to enhance the family income by utilizing the natural resources available in her area. Belonging to an agriculturalist family, the income generated was not sufficient enough to maintain a decent livelihood.
     This led Snehalata to think of ways and means to transform her talents which would enable her to earn additional income. She decided to exploit the natural resource of the area by starting a unit in the line of manufacturing of coconut shell handicrafts-cum-coconut jewellery. She came to know about the training programme imparted by A&NIKVIB on manufacturing of coconut shell handicrafts and she underwent the same. Later on, she also registered her name for a three months' advance training under the project 'Promotion of local handicrafts of A&N Islands' which gave her the confidence she wanted, for setting up of a venture in handicrafts.
    On successful completion of her basic and advanced training under the aegis of the Directorate of Industries & A&NI KVIB, she was linked with PMEGP scheme of KVIC for financial assistance and was sanctioned a loan through SBI, Chouldari. With the fund received through PMEGP scheme, her dream of uplifting the financial status of her poor family has become a reality.  She proudly says that PMEGP scheme has helped her earn for the treatment of her husband and also for the expenditure she had to meet in getting her daughter married.
