Members of A&N UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights inspect institutions

As part of its mandate the Andaman & Nicobar UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights (A&N UTCPCR) through its members Smt Rubina Siddiqui, Smt Kiran Tigga and Smt Geetha Raj undertook several visits/inspections of various institutions responsible for the care and protection of children. They visited Beracha Love Home (Pathargadda), Bethany Home for Children (Pahadgaon), Capstone Ministries (Bird Line), Seva Niketan (Dairy Farm) and Ramakrishna Mission (RGT Road).
The Commission, through a report has made a series of recommendations in bringing about positive developments in the institutions. The recommendations have been sent to a few Child Care Institutions and will also be sent to the other institutions and they would be asked to send a compliance report.
Similar visits would continue to be given at various shelter homes, education institutes and centres across the islands by the Commission to ensure that the guidelines related to care and protection of children in the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is adhered to.
The A&N UTCPCR was constituted under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005 by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. The Act empowers the Commission to act as a Civil Court and undertake suo moto enquiry and also look into
any complaints related to violation or deprivation
of child rights and non-implementation of laws for protection and development of children. The Commission is also the Appellate Body for Right to Education (RTE).
The UTCPCR has requested the citizens, Islanders, parents and children to bring to notice or report to the Commission any other such issues like child marriage, child abuse, deprivation of rights in schools etc.
