COVID positive woman safely evacuated to GB Pant Hospital delivers healthy baby through medical intervention

Swift medical assistance by the Health Department of A&N Administration has helped a COVID positive expectant mother deliver safely at G B Pant Hospital.  On Oct.13, the Medical Officer (i/c) CHC Diglipur has intimated that a serious patient namely, Smti. Sushmita Mridha, W/o Arobinda Biswas, aged 30 years, R/o Diglipur with high risk full term pregnancy diagnosed as COVID positive requires urgent evacuation for specialized treatment at GB Pant Hospital, as a life saving measure. On receiving the information, the Health Department swung into action and arranged a Defence Helicopter, to airlift the serious patient from Diglipur on the same day.  Despite inclement weather condition, the Defence Helicopter reached Diglipur and safely evacuated the patient to Port Blair. On reaching GB Pant Hospital, the patient was taken for emergency caesarian section immediately after initial examination, resulting in safe delivery of a healthy male child, weighing about 3.4 kg. Both the mother and baby are coping well post surgery. The timely intervention by the Administration helped in ensuring safe delivery of the woman, a press release from Director of Health Services said.
