Religious fervor amongst people; festive season begins with Durga Puja

Durga Puja, one of the biggest festivals of the country, got off to a colourful start on Maha Sasthi in Isles too, today. The four day long festivity began with the invocation to Devi Durga. The Isles are hit by puja fever as beautifully decorated pandals have been set up at different locations in Port Blair, sub-urbs as well as different islands here.

   As evening sets in, there is a riot of colours with dazzling illuminations when thousands of people are out on the streets to have a glimpse of the idols. Beating of drums and blaring of microphones have given an extra punch to the entire atmosphere. People are also seen busy with last minute purchases in various markets.
