CS chairs meeting on implementation of cashless transaction in Islands Instructs banks, Govt. Departments and other stakeholders to promote cashless transaction

 A meeting regarding implementation of cashless transaction in A&N Islands was held under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Anindo Majumdar in the conference hall of Secretariat today. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary instructed all banks to promote use of internet banking, mobile banking, RuPay etc. They have also been asked to promote use of POS machines. At present, 249 out of 350 POS machines are active and the SBI will install more POS machines in the Islands, within a week.  
   Apart from this, the Government Departments viz. APWD, Electricity, Forest, Shipping, Civil Aviation, Transport, Tourism, DC (SA), DC (N&MA), DC (N), Information & Publicity have been instructed to open current account. In this regard, the Director (Accounts & Budget) will submit a proposal to CGA, Delhi immediately. The Govt. Departments have been asked to use of SBI Buddy App and Pay TM and other mobile e-Wallets to deposit payments by public upto Rs.5000/- in Govt. Treasury. POS machines will be used in all Govt. Guest Houses, Transport Department, PBMC and ANIIDCO and its outlets.
  The IT Department has been instructed to promote use of Citizen Service Centres (CSC). The Deputy Commissioner (SA), Deputy Commissioner (N&MA) and Deputy Commissioner (N) have been asked to promote cashless transaction in their respective areas by creating public awareness. They have also been asked to coordinate with bankers, traders, public representatives and public at large. Bankers have also been directed to create awareness and launch publicity to encourage cashless economy in the Islands. 
 Flight, shipping, bus transport, Police Department will switch over to cashless mode and use of RuPay card will be promoted in the Islands.   
   The Andaman Chamber of Commerce has been requested to promote use of POS machines and e-Wallets and RuPay Card. The Chamber of Commerce urged for waiver of bank fees and the banks will take a decision in this regard accordingly.   
   The CGM, BSNL has been asked to take steps to provide improved connecti-vity and approach the Ministry of Telecom/IT to enhance the same.
  The Principal Secretary (Finance), Shri Raajiv Yaduvanshi, the Lead Bank SBI and all banks, Presidents of ACCI & Grain Dealers and Grocers Association, CGM, BSNL, Secretary, Civil Supplies, Labour Commissioner, DC (SA), Director (Tourism) attended the meeting, an official release said here today.
