4th Annual Sports-cum-Athletic Meet of South Andaman Division held at Wimberlygunj

The 4th Annual Sports-cum-Athletic Meet of South Andaman Division was held at Wimberlygunj under the aegis of Biodiversity Conservation, using Sports & athletics as a medium to promote awareness towards diversity of local flora & fauna, as well as to encourage a healthy lifestyle. The White-bellied Sea Eagle was chosen as the official mascot for the meet. Various events such as Half Marathon, Cricket, Volleyball, Football, Table tennis, Badminton, Tug of War & other athletic events were organized during the Sports Meet. The Ranges and Offices under South Andaman Division were grouped into 4 teams viz. Megapode, Teal, Dove and Hornbill. The closing ceremony was held today, in which Shri Sanjay Kumar Sinha, IFS, PCCF-cum-Chief Wildlife Warden, A & N Islands, was the chief guest while Smti. D Padmawati, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Ferrargunj, Dr A. Anil Kumar, IFS, CCF (TC), Dr. S Dinesh Kannan, IFS, CCF (WL) were the guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest congratulated all winners and participants and gave emphasis on inclusion of sports as stress buster and to develop sports culture.
In the opening ceremony, held on Feb.6, Shri Ravi Horo, IFS, Additional PCCF (P&D) as the chief guest hoisted the Sports Meet flag and officially declared the Meet open. The event commenced with a welcome address by Shri Ashwin J Parihar, IFS, DFO, South Andaman, followed by presentation of the Sports Meet report by Shri Ravi Kant, IFS, ACF (SA).
As part of the event, a Half Marathon (6000 mtrs.) from Bambooflat jetty to Forest Training Institute at Wimberlygunj was organized for Men and a Half Marathon (3000 mtrs.) from Bambooflat Jetty to Stewartgunj Jn. for women & Men Veteran category was organized. Various athletic events were held on Feb.6 &7, 2025 at the Wimberlygunj School playground. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri R. S. Sharath, ACF (HQ), South Andaman Division, a press release from DFO (SA) said.
