Importance of breast feeding highlighted

Community Food & Nutrition Unit of Port Blair in coordination with Directorate of Social Welfare organised a symposium of disseminating correct norms of infant & young child feeding practices, and feeding during emergency IMS ACT. The symposium was held at ICDS training centre at Attam Pahad. 
 Speaking on the occasion, resource person Dr. Tapus Daruya, Epidermologist, IDSP, DHS explained the IMS ACT and promotion and protection of breast feeding. Smt. Jharna Roy, Tutor ANM spoke about the infant and young child feeding practices. Smt. Irene Nicholas, CDPO (Urban) spoke about current trend and strategy for further improvement. 
 Earlier, Smt. Suma Sreedharan, Demonstration Officer of CFNEU, Port Blair elaborated on the theme 'a key to sustainable development'. 
 The vote of thanks was proposed by Smt. Susan Mathew, Mukhya Sevika. 
Various programmes were conducted by the Unit viz. recipe and quiz competitions for mothers, skits, mini exhibition on low cost nutritious food etc., a communication said.
