Construction of 42 KLD Faecal Sludge & Septage Treatment Plant at Brookshabad begins

In order to improve the sanitation value chain and quality of life among the citizens of Port Blair, a 42 KLD Faecal Sludge and Septage Treatment Plant is being developed at Brookshabad by Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC). The approximate cost of the project is Rs. 2.88 Cr. The construction work for the Treatment Plant which has been taken up under Smart City Mission has begun and is likely to be completed by March, 2021. 
  It may be recalled that the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) (SBMU) was launched with the aim to make urban India free from open defecation and achieving 100% modern and scientific management of municipal solid wastes in statutory towns of the country. The objective of the Mission also includes generating awareness about sanitation and its linkage with public health, to effect behavioural change regarding healthy sanitation practices, eradication of manual scavanging etc.
