Observance of World Breast Feeding Week by Social Welfare Deptt

  Along with rest of the country, the ICDS (Urban Project), Directorate of Social Welfare is also celebrating the World Breast Feeding Week from Aug 1 to 7. The theme of the celebration this year is 'breast feeding; a key to sustainable development'. Accordingly, a week long programme is being organized in all sectors of ICDS Urban Project which includes workshop for the Anganwadi workers, 'annaprashan' ceremony at Phoenix Bay AWC, mini exhibition at Garacharma AWC, growth monitoring linked with counseling on breast feeding at Haddo AWC, Mothers' meeting (specially for pregnant and lactating women) and the concluding function symposium on infant and young child feeding practice at Anganwadi Training Centre, Attam Pahad, with the view to create awareness on these vital issues amongst the people. The programme is being conducted in collaboration with Food and Nutrition Unit.
  In addition, awareness generation camps are also being organized to disseminate information and reach out to mothers for achieving optimal breast feeding and intensified counseling of mothers during the antenatal period, at institutional delivery point and during lactation. The programmes are being coordinated by the ICDS functionaries headed by Smti. Irene Niclos, CDPO (UP), a communication said.
