A&NLSA organizes Legal Awareness Prog. on 'Drug Abuse and De-Addiction' at Andaman Law College Students encouraged to actively participate in spreading awareness about drug menace

A Legal Awareness Programme was organized by the Andaman & Nicobar State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Andaman Law College, Sri Vijaya Puram, on the topic 'Drug Abuse and De-Addiction' today in the premises of Andaman Law College. The programme was graced by the august presence of Hon'ble Justice Amrita Sinha and Hon'ble Justice Uday Kumar, Judges of the High Court at Calcutta.
Addressing the gathering, Hon'ble Justice Amrita Sinha emphasized the harmful effects of drug abuse on individuals and society at large. She also explained the legal consequences of drug-related offenses under the NDPS Act and encouraged students to actively participate in spreading awareness about this menace. As part of her engagement with the student community, she posed several questions about drug-related laws, which were enthusiastically answered by the students.
Hon'ble Justice Uday Kumar highlighted the role of education and awareness in preventing drug abuse. He stressed the importance of early intervention and community involvement in de-addiction efforts. He also explained the legal mechanisms in place to combat drug trafficking and consumption, urging everyone to be vigilant and proactive in addressing this issue.
Shri Bhawani Shanker Sharma, Registrar, Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court at Port Blair-cum-Member Secretary, A&N State Legal Services Authority, delivered an insightful speech. He elaborated on the significance of the NDPS Act in combating drug abuse and stressed the need for a collaborative approach involving students, educators, and the community. He also conducted an interactive session with the students, fostering an engaging discussion on the topic.
The programme was attended by dignitaries viz. Shri Sudhir Kumar, Ld. District Judge, A&N Islands, Shri Neyaz Alam, Ld. Additional District Judge, Port Blair, Smti. Arkabrati Neogi, Ld. Chief Judicial Magistrate, Port Blair, Shri Jayanta Mukherjee, Ld. Judicial Magistrate, Campbell Bay and Shri Anupam Sircar, Ld. Judicial Magistrate, 2nd Court, Port Blair.
The programme witnessed active participation from the student community and faculty members of Andaman Law College, making it highly interactive and informative.
Earlier, the Principal In-Charge, Andaman Law College, Dr. S. Jayakumar welcomed the gathering while the event concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri Bhawani Shanker Sharma, Ld.
